The World Map of Happiness

Adrian White, an analytic social psychologist at the University of Leicester, has produced this interactive map showing the happiness levels in 178 countries around the world.

The happiest country overall: Denmark. Unhappiest: Burundi.

Here's how the world's monarchies are rated, from happiest to least happy (excluding Liechtenstein and Monaco, which are not ranked):

2. Sweden (ranks 7 overall)
3. Bhutan (ranks 8 overall)
4. Brunei (ranks 9 overall)
5. Luxembourg (ranks 12 overall)
6. Netherlands (ranks 15 overall)
7. Norway (ranks 19 overall)
8. Malaysia (ranks 17 overall)
9. United Arab Emirates (ranks 22 overall)
10. Belgium (ranks 28 overall)
11. Oman (ranks 30 overall)
12. Saudi Arabia (ranks 31 overall)
13. Bahrain (ranks 33 overall)
14. Kuwait (ranks 38 overall)
15. United Kingdom (ranks 41 overall)
16. Qatar (ranks 45 overall)
