Marilyn Braun of Marilyn's Royal Blog wonders, "Has major coverage of Diana reached the end of the road? Or is this just the case with newspapers outside of the UK?"
My thoughts right now: People often compare Princess Diana to dead pop icons like Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley, but she is a dead royal icon, like Marie Antoinette and Anne Boleyn. I think, like them, Diana will eventually become a staple for historical fiction writers, and that she'll continue to be popular with biographers as well.
In fact, there are already a few novels out there about Diana; almost all of them focus on her death, but in time I expect to see full-scale novels about her life. She may fade out of the newspaper headlines, but she'll never completely vanish from bookstores. At least, I hope not; I like reading about her, too.
(That said, when I first started my website, I couldn't find a single English-language book in print about Princess Grace. That surprised me, since she was not only a princess but also a big Hollywood star. There are some Grace books in print now, but they don't seem to attract much attention. Maybe I'm wrong to think Diana will have more staying power…)
