The 2011 movie "W.E.," which was co-written, directed, and produced by singer/actress/controversy magnet Madonna, is about the romance of Britain's Duke and Duchess of Windsor. It's been getting poor reviews, so out of curiosity I decided to see how many positive reviews I could find.
The answer: not many. Here's the best I could do:
"W.E." is rather better than expected; it's bold, confident… may appeal to younger women with an eye for fashion." — David Gritten, the Telegraph
Madonna makes us all fall in love with Mrs Simpson… exquisitely done… the whole thing looks fantastic. — Baz Bamigboye, Daily Mail
"W.E." is an elegant, ambitious and relentlessly monotonous film… I suppose the more you bring to "W.E." the more you will take away from it. — Roger Ebert
If you saw this movie and liked (or hated) it, here's your chance to defend (or slam) it! Is it just empty eye-candy? Did Madonna do justice to the history behind the story? Are critics judging the movie, or Madonna herself? Share your opinion in the comment section below.
