Sneak peek at July 2018 new royalty books

Next month's new royalty books are mostly about English or British royalty, but there will be a few options for people (like me) who also enjoy reading about other parts of the world. Here's your sneak peek.

Empress by Ruby Lal. In 1611, Nur Jahan became the twentieth wife of Emperor Jahangir of India. She governed in his stead and led troops into battle.

Richard the Lionheart by W. B. Bartlett. A biography of England's Crusader king, Richard I.

Margaret Pole by Susan Higginbotham. A niece of England's King Edward IV, Margaret was executed by Henry VIII.

The King's Assassin by Benjamin Woolley. The conspiracy to kill British king James I by his handsome lover, the Duke of Buckingham.

George V: A King at War by Alexandra Churchill. Researched with unique access to the British king's diaries and letters.

Sissi's World edited by Maura E. Hametz and Heidi Schlipphacke. Explores the endurance of legends about Empress Elisabeth of Austria.

The Romanov Empress by C. W. Gortner. Fictional account of the life of Maria Feodorovna, mother of Russia's last tsar.

As always, publication dates are subject to change.

For the full list of July's new royalty books, visit the Royalty.nu Books page next month. But why wait? You can go there right now to see the new May and June books!

All of the books listed above look interesting to me, but if I could only read one, I would pick Empress because it's always a nice surprise to see an English-language biography of a non-European royal woman. My second choice would be The King's Assassin out of sheer curiosity about why the king's lover turned against him. Which book would you choose?
